How to run a Picatinny scope or red dot on an 11 mm or 3/8 inch dovetail airgun or rimfire.
Needs adapterAn 11 mm or 3/8 inch dovetail needs a dovetail-to-Picatinny adapter base before a Picatinny optic will fit. The adapter clamps the dovetail and gives a Picatinny surface on top.

A dovetail is a clamped groove, not a slotted flat, so a Picatinny mount has nothing to lock into. Fit a dovetail-to-Picatinny adapter base first: it clamps the 11 mm or 3/8 inch dovetail and presents a Picatinny surface for the optic.
Measure the dovetail before buying the adapter, since the real width runs from about 11 to 13 mm. On a spring or gas-ram air rifle the recoil moves both ways, so use an adapter or ring set with a scope stop or arrestor pin to stop it creeping.
